Black Travel Summit met with Nii & Kristin, founder of Certified Africa on May 24th to find out a little bit more about what they do, the importance of entrepreneurship in the Black community, unseen opportunities in the motherland and more!

Here are some key notes from the interview…

How do you tie in the introduction to entrepreneurship in the motherland for people who join your group trips?

As we are going through the travel destination, we introduce the attendees to other people from the African Diaspora who have started their own businesses in addition to entrepreneurs who are from the destination. We are also constantly pointing out potential opportunities and sectors that can be explored…

What are some sectors that some of your attendees tend to be interested in?

When we start talking about opportunities in Africa, whatever it is you are passionate about should be your focus. You are a walking business… There’s an open space for everyone to get in and explore multiple sectors…

What are some challenges you’ve faced since starting your business?

We were blessed to launch our business during the Year of Return. We were on the opposite end of what a normal business might go through when they first start out. The first trip that we launched, had close to 100 people and we didn’t expect that to happen, but because of the Year of Return and the increased interest in visiting Ghana, we were able to have a great and successful year… Interestingly enough, the types of individuals that attended with us, weren’t exactly interested in starting their own businesses in Ghana. This forced us to develop our model to cater to a variety of interests…
