Sessions at BTS
All general sessions are 20 minutes long at BTS’ mini-summits and 30 minutes long at BTS’ global summit (5 minutes for Q&A). Sessions may take the format of a solo presentation, panel, or fireside chat.
All BTS sessions are tagged with topics that encompass the knowledge our experts have to offer. See below to learn more about what these topics mean. Some sessions may be applicable to multiple tags, and some may apply to only one!
#ContentCreator
These sessions are for creatives who want to take their content to the next level. Session topics may include: writing and editing, creative photography & videography, UX and site design, freelance writing and pitching, successful live-streaming, email marketing, SEO maximization, and more.
#Entrepreneur
These sessions are for the entrepreneurs who wish to excel in their professional careers. Session topics may include: business plan writing, budgeting, trademark and copyright considerations, contract scoping, tax and legal issues, and more.
#BlackTravel
These sessions provide a look into the current state of Black travel in the tourism industry. Topics may include: cultural exploitation and stereotyping, diversifying influencer marketing and the ROI, how to get more Black & Brown faces in tourism campaigns, responsible brand marketing, and more.
#BloggingWhileBlack
These sessions are taught by experienced creators, influencers, and entrepreneurs and are designed for attendees who are new to digital content creation and are interested in developing their careers as travel influencers. This is the perfect opportunity for novices to get their feet wet in the travel industry. Topics may include: writing and editing basics, selecting a niche and standing out from the rest, organizing an editorial calendar, tech and Content Management, brand and business strategic planning, and more.
#Representation
These sessions are for creators and industry professionals who are at the forefront of change, inclusion, and are interested in the future of representation in travel and tourism. Topics may include: how to increase awareness of under-represented voices, addressing the needs of tomorrow’s women in travel, addressing the lack of male representation in travel, addressing the need for body positivity, the niche of people of color in niche tourism (Black wellness, Black culture & history in travel, Black food bloggers, etc), re-writing common misconceptions of Africa and Black communities worldwide, practicing sustainable tourism practices, and more.
#Tech-nique
These sessions are opportunities for participants to gain hard skills that can be utilized immediately. Topics may include: social media optimization, the “tech” side of content creation (web hosting platforms, choosing the right website builder for your product, plugins or building from scratch, analytics, coding, etc), podcasting tools and gadgets, photo/video creation and editing, social media marketing, networking, and more.
